Wildwood Crest, NJ ~ June 14th, 2008 ~ Coming together as one, for their 2nd annual Wildwood Reunion, a group of people, originally from Altoona, PA who lived & worked in the Wildwoods for the summer back in the 50s & 60s chose the Caribbean Motel for its iconic 1950s presence and it sure was a treat! Many people over the years have spent at least one summer working here. This particular group spent many summers working together here. Half a dozen of them worked at the famous Wildwood Diner, which to much of their dismay, has been torn down. Some of them worked at the Carousel Motel, also demolished, and others at Douglass Candies as their first fudge cutter. Others worked at the Jones Boys, Menz’, Laura’s Fudge, Zaberer’s, Larkins, Sam’s Pizza, Juniors, The Satellite, Schumann’s, Hollidays, Poplar Bar, The Caravan, Wildwood Beach Patrol, Skilo, Sid’s Lucky Star, Frank’s Italian Bakery, The Dayton Hotel, The Manor, Rendezvous, and more. Some of their jobs were long lasting and others were quite short lived- even as brief as a week! They mostly lived at a rooming house on Poplar Ave. called the Gettysburg which is still there! When asked what the best part of coming to Wildwood for their reunion is, they all have to agree it’s just being together and sharing Wildwood memories, talking about the great old times of summering at the shore. They look forward to their 3rd Annual Reunion planned for 2010.
