“Soup to Nuts” The Local Success Story of Bobby McMichaels
The tune of Beethoven ringing from Bobby Mc Michaels’ cell phone is a charming reminder of how business continues to grow for 19th Hole Enterprises. From his humble start as a kid brother selling soft pretzels, then starting his own landscaping business at 17, to currently being a thriving local developer, the success story of Bobby McMichaels ought to inspire any hard working honest person. His philosophy is, “if you are a firm believer in working hard and doing good things, good things come to good people.” For over the past twenty five years, Bobby McMichaels has been building trust and loyalty with his customers that proved to be the cornerstone and foundation for his company

Around 1979, the ambitious teenager took his experience with concrete, his attitude of an entrepreneur, and $1,000 and started a landscaping business. The $1,000 bought him a beat up work truck, a couple of lawnmowers and tools, and a few accounts to cut grass. His friends mocked him and called his truck the Sanford and Sons mobile. And as the story goes Steve Kulisek and Nicky Calogero had to help him push the truck off the road because it wouldn’t start the first day he got it.

So his professional career actually started by pushing broken down pick-up trucks and not lawnmowers. But he was hungry for success and he did not let that stop him. He considers his first big break to be the first lawn he every cut. It was with that first lawn that got his business ball rolling. He has been hustling ever since. And as he drives around Wildwood these days in his Ford 350 diesel overseeing more than thirty major projects on the island, he can look back and really appreciate the fruits of his labors.

Early in his career when he would get a job cutting the grass, his mind and eyes were on bigger things. He would look around the yard and see what needed to be done. If there was some construction or landscaping that the customer wanted, he would do it. If he didn’t know the specifics, he knew somebody who did. It was this mindset that really progressed his business into different areas. 19th Hole Enterprises, which is Bobby himself, will also be known around town for his miniature golf courses. He built & designed many up & down the east coast. He was the person to bring the first one hundred real palm trees to the Wildwoods fifteen years ago. He’s also the type of person who would bail his friends out of jail and give them a second chance. With that same heart, Bobby has a passion for the children in our community and has been a volunteer football coach in Wildwood for over 20 years. At Christmastime, for many years, Bobby is busy getting everyone in the holiday spirit as he is one of the leading supplier of Christmas trees on the island. And on top of all of that, most importantly, Bobby is raising two sons by offering them an education and better way of life. Young Bob graduates from Goldey-Beacon College with a degree in Business this month and plans on helping his father in a whole new business venture.
